A Brief Profile of the Old Prince Waleans Association (U.S.A.), Inc
The Old Prince Waleans Association (U.S.A.), Inc. (OPWA), was established in 1987 by a group of former students of the Prince of Wales School (POW) residing in the United States of America. These princewaleans recognized the need for substantial financial and material support to their alma mater, and were prepared to make the necessary sacrifices to improve the quality of teaching and learning at the School in Sierra Leone.

Opwa in a nutshell
The Old Prince Waleans Association (OPWA), Washington DC Metropolitan Area, has been in existence since 1988. It holds regular meetings at 6:00 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7410 New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland 20912. Based on needs, OPWA has undertaken many projects to assist the Prince of Wales School (POW). These projects include:
The Bereavement Policy of OPWA
- The Bereavement Policy of OPWA is triggered upon the death of an active member (OPWA established criteria for "active"), or a close relative (limited category or type of "closeness") of an active member.
- The Bereavement Policy of OPWA mandates the use of ceremonial uniform on occasion of the death of an active member of OPWA, NOT of an active member's relative, regardless of the category or type of closeness.

Founded in London in 1985, the Old Princewaleans UK & Ireland Branch is the oldest of the diasporan Chapters and in the twenty-three years of its existence our Association has made many significant charitable donations to the school.

A Brief History of the Prince of Wales School
The Prince of Wales School (POW) was formally established in Freetown, Republic of Sierra Leone on April 6, 1925 to foster science education and studies in modern languages. Officially inaugurated by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, the School marked a turning point in the advancement of a balanced secondary education in Sierra Leone.
